2017 Patriot Dinner & Cadet Golf Classic
Since 2015, Allen Academy has hosted an annual golf tournament to benefit the school. Beginning in 2017, tribute was paid to the school’s 62-year history as a military school through a newly-established partnership with Folds of Honor, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.

During the Patriot Dinner, attendees had the distinct honor of hearing three impassioned speakers. Brigadier General Joe Ramirez, Jr., U.S. Army (Ret.,) started the evening off with a plea for everyone, especially the rising generation, to demonstrate what it means to be great Americans. Ashley Thornton Schafer spoke of her husband, USAF Major Rick “Tracer” Schafer, who was killed in the Line of Duty in 2014, and the difference that Folds of Honor has made in the lives of their two daughters. The evening concluded with a presentation by Major Ed Pulido, U.S. Army (Ret.), Sr. VP for the Folds of Honor Foundation, who recalled his experience with an I.E.D. that led to the amputation of his left leg, and set him on the path to working with this honorable organization.
The 2017 inaugural Cadet Golf Classic and Patriot Dinner at Miramont Country Club generated more than $60,000 in charitable funds, which was split evenly between Folds of Honor and the Financial Assistance Program at Allen Academy. At Allen Academy’s Veterans Day assembly on Friday, November 10, 2017, Jay Graham, Chairman and CEO of 2017 Medal of Honor sponsor WildHorse Resource Development Corporation, presented a check to Ashley Schafer, representing Folds of Honor.
