2019 Patriot Dinner & Cadet Golf Classic
In 2019, Miramont Country Club hosted the Third Annual Patriot Dinner on Sunday, April 28, 2019 and the Cadet Golf Classic on the ensuing day, Monday, April 29, 2019.
In 2019, Miramont Country Club hosted the Third Annual Patriot Dinner on Sunday, April 28, 2019 and the Cadet Golf Classic on the ensuing day, Monday, April 29, 2019.
During the Patriot Dinner, attendees had the distinct honor of hearing from Kelli Campbell, a mother of four, Folds of Honor representative, and military widow. After growing up in the area, Kelli attended Texas A&M University, where she met her, fell in love with, and married a fellow Aggie, Shawn Campbell. Upon their graduation from Texas A&M in 2001, Shawn received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corp, beginning a journey which led to his becoming a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter pilot, completing three deployments to the Middle East, and progressing through the USMC, ultimately earning the rank of Major.
In 2016, while stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, Major Shawn Campbell and eleven other brave men paid the ultimate price, losing their lives a Marine Corps helicopter collision on January 14, 2016. Upon the death of her husband, Kelli Campbell relocated her family to Kansas City in order to be close to family. Suddenly uprooted from everything familiar, Kelli and her four children, Tristan, Kenna, Kate and Donovan, faced the daunting task of starting a life from scratch. Whitefield Academy opened their doors to the Campbells, and Kelli enrolled her previously homeschooled children with the help of Folds of Honor Children’s Fund scholarships.
Today, Kelli is on the Folds of Honor National Speaker’s Bureau and works locally with the Kansas City chapter. She is grateful to be able help pass on the support and hope she was given, and to continue honoring the legacy of her husband and all those who serve our nation.
The 2019 Cadet Golf Classic and Patriot Dinner at Miramont Country Club generated more than $180,000 in charitable funds, which was split evenly between Folds of Honor and the Financial Assistance Program at Allen Academy. At Allen Academy’s Veterans Day assembly on Friday, November 11, 2019, Aaron Dawson, Chair of The Cadet, presented a check to Mia Mercer, a Folds of Honor recipient.
